Mosaic Floor

Materials: Garbage tile, grout

2018

When we did our addition to our Cape Cod house, we decided to add an extra 4 feet to the depth of the screened-in-porch. It was an excellent decision which really made the porch more comfortable. The only problem was that once we moved into the living room, planning on continuing to use the same slate tiles extending into the living room, we found ourselves short of the 12” x 12” tiles. Fortunately, when we were tiling the screened-in-porch with the help of our dear friend Daniel, I kept saving all the broken pieces of tile which he thought was crazy. He thought we should throw it all away. NO WAY!! You never know when you can use broken left-overs. So, here Sue and I found ourselves needing to finish this job with no way of finding matching slate tiles, so we painstakingly, spent 3 days arranging and piecing together all the broken pieces that we had saved. The result proved to be one of our favorite creations in the house. In the end there was absolutely nothing to throw away. And yes, just to prove that we did it, those are my toes in the last picture.
