Curved Deck

If you look at the Cape Cod Pontoon Arch item, you will see how the decking moves under the arch into the backyard. The decking started at the driveway, ground level and slowly rose up as it progressed through the archway. at the point of the pontoon arch it was one foot above the ground. As I moved to the rear garden area, the framing ended up to be 18 inches above the ground. I did not want to create a traditional “square” deck so designed the deck to curve and flow around to the stairway near the house. To make it work and get approved by the building department, I spent a lot of time and a lot of extra money, creating the framing that would support the structure. I should have taken a picture of what the framing looked like. When the building inspector came to check it out, he was amazed and said he had never seen anything like it but that it was more than adequate for the deck. I have to thank our dear friend Daniel for his suggestions as to decking layout design. It was a big job which took a lot mor time to do, but esthetically ended up being a lot better than a square or rectangular deck.
