Fountain
1990
One of the results of the excavation of the house was an 18 foot mound of dirt and rock. After the foundation was finished I started backfilling by hand and started on this mound. One day I was on top of this mound shoveling dirt and rock by hand. It was 96 degrees and after a few hours I found myself standing on top of a large boulder. Being exhausted and soaking wet, I decided that maybe I could incorporate the boulder where it was where the entrance to the house was. That evening it rained and the next morning I went out front to do more cleaning of the area when I found the large boulder had been washed by the rain. As soon as I looked at it I realized what I had found. The boulder had a noticeable ridge running down from the top all the way to its bottom. I cleaned the boulder off and built up the rest of the area. I finished by creating a pool at the bottom of the boulder, sealed it with cement and painted the pool with black pool paint. I ran pvc pipe up through the hill, and ran a submersible pump line up to the top of the new mound. I then ran an electric line from the house and up the back of the mound to an outlet. The right rock garden area with the walkway to the top and plantings followed shortly thereafter.
