Struggling with the impact of Covid, I kept imagining a piece that would communicate all that I had been feeling, and so decided to create a piece. As it evolved in my mind, I kept feeling its horrors. While creating it, I felt that I was struggling with an ominous being that was ravishing humanity. As I was finishing it, I felt a strong connection with this overpowering being. It was scarry. When I hung it in our recent show, lots of attendees said that they felt it was powerful but that it also had a kindness associated with it that made them feel encouraged about the future. The more time I spent with “it”, the more I felt connected in a more positive way. While Divoc reminds me of the horror that we have experienced, for me, it also, in its own strange way, gives some hope that we are on a path that will get us through it all.
(Divoc is Covid spelled backwards)
